Ferdinand Claudin 7mm Pinfire Revolver

A very nice cased and engraved 6 shot 7mm pinfire revolver retailed by Ferdinand Claudin of Boulevart Des Italiens 38, Paris.

Probably made in Paris around 1865 by Eugene Lefaucheux although I can find no proof marks whatsoever, neither French nor Belgian.

Marked on barrel - Fd Claudin Brevete a Paris

On barrel - EF 11738

On pin guard - CLAUDIN BREVETE S.G.D.G. No. 119

On trigger - NVbn E. LEFAUCHEUX and BREVETE SGDG (PAR S)

The French word “Brevete” translates to Patent or Patented. The initials S.G.D.G. stand for ‘Sans Garantie du Gouvernement” which literally translates to “Without Guarantee of the Government”. This was a disclaimer required by the government of France stating that it does not guarantee enforcement of the claimed patent.
